287: Elements of Abstraction

Subterranean Heat, 48" x 36"
–IN this short video I discuss how and why I paint abstracts. Concurrently I also experiment with a new filming setup I may use in future abstract painting tutorials. Let me know what you think of the process as I attempt to revise my methods. This series features a new splash screen and theme song (which I did in Garageband). Hope you enjoy it and thanks for your feedback.

  1. HELLO BRAD, Good for you to jump into the abstract adventure. I find the sanded pieces appealing, a sensitive combination of smooth texture with a rough look. I like the yellow arch painting and wonder if keeping it simple has its own appeal. The yellow is fragmented and broken, that is complex enough for my taste. ALL THE BEST IN THE SHOW. And thanks for sharing.

    1. Thanks so much for the positive words, Rose. I wasn't sure if I wanted to post this after I edited the footage as it was such a departure from my earlier work. But I'm really enjoying the abstracts and feel it is a productive vein for me. Thanks for taking a look.

  2. It's been so interesting and educative to have followed you throughout your artistic journey for the past several years. Thank you for sharing! Can you imagine what it would have been like to have had this technology available back in the days of John Singer Sargeant and all the other great Masters! Your abstracts are vibrant and delicious! All the best in the upcoming show.

  3. I find the fusion of your abstract style with your landscapes VERY exciting. I hope you will explore this idea further in the future. Good luck with the show.
