230: Thick Paint book now with video

My online book The Art of Thick Paint now has accompanying video with every chapter. Click here or on the book cover below to read the book. Both text and video are free. Video is a new feature with Wattpad and I think it's a great addition to the reading experience. In many cases the videos are nearly a perfect match. In others I've yet to do a video on the topic (such as the floating grid) and used a video that complements the theme. A few chapters I hope will be of interest are how to use palette knivesloading the brush, and field effects (click these links to go directly to the respective chapters).

I don't often ask for social media support but giving a star to the book on the Wattpad site will expose more people to the Thick Paint project. I appreciate your help.

I hope this new combination of video and text will prove useful to those who want to explore painting with thick paint in greater detail.

Brad Teare–May 2015

  1. Very cool, Brad. Watched the video on chapter 2. It was great to hear what you had to say.

I am like you: I think there's a combination of emotional experience and involvement with painting, but also a very analytical approach to it. I find that I paint very slowly, very deliberately, analyzing the effort. Sometimes, I paint instintctivly, finding myself in that moment of zen where the spirit inside seems to be making the brush dance and create. But most of the time, it's highly analytical and intentioned effort that drives results.

I also like (and respect) the truth that painting takes study and practice. I'm glad you stuck it through year one, into year to and beyond, and are where you are today as an artist.

May you have many other years of joy in front of the easel in continued pursuit of your life's master piece.

    God bless,

    1. Thanks Bob! I really appreciate your comment. Art can be a blend of many motivations. That's what makes it so interesting. As always, thanks for your kind words. They keep me going!

  2. Yours is one amazing artistic journey and I keep admiring every aspect of it! I cant wait to read the book again with the videos now adding so much of value, thank you for this sincere effort Brad.

    1. Thanks Padmaja! I thought your comment on chapter 12 was excellent. I added a response in the chapter comments but want to treat this subject at greater length in a chapter of its own. I had never really thought about how to draw from memory but it is a good one. I think a lot of fellow painters might find it interesting. Thanks for the great idea!

Thanks for your comments!
