87 Acrylic En Plein Air

IN THIS VIDEO I paint a small acrylic in half an hour. The paint started to dry at about 20 minutes in. Next time I want to be sure to seal the canvas with acrylic medium. I might also add a bit of Golden acrylics slow dry acrylic piant to my mixtures.

  2. Nice approach, Brad. I spent last week in Northern Arizona painting near page and the Vermillion Cliffs. I used Golden Open Acrylics, the dry desert wind really made a difference in the drying time. It was a learning experience.

  3. I have lots of "learning experiences" en plein air. Did the paints perform well? I have a set of them but haven't used them yet.

  4. Yeah, I liked how they performed. The wind dried them out a lot faster than I expected, it was a pleasant 70 degrees, not too hot. I wished I had brought the Open Acrylics thinner or gloss medium. I was thinning with water when needed and that contributed to the quicker drying time.

  5. I just discovered your blog and love it! So much great information! Ive mostly used Golden Open and Fluid for plein air work but am excited to try some of your methods for achieving texture. For the person above, water speeds up the drying of Open Acrylics dramatically. The thinner and medium keeps them workable for a long time.
