  1. Thanks for your words of painting wisdom. This was exactly what I needed to hear. 'Panic Painting' is one of my biggest obstacles. Keep up the good work!

  2. Brad - I consider your observations very thought-provoking. I have definitely learned from all your posts as I am a career-long illustrator turned painter and am trying soak up as much useful information as possible now that I have made the switch. Thank you and please keep this up. Regards, Jim

  3. Stephen and Jim,

Thanks for your remarks. It encourages me to keep going with the blog, which can often be quite inconvenient. Giving painters some ideas they might find difficult to find elsewhere has been rewarding.

Incidentally Jim, I was an illustrator as well and many illustration precepts we took for granted can be stumbling blocks. I had to unlearn quite a few ideas to make the transition. Of course, I was illustrating in a woodcut style. The transition might have been easier if I had been illustrating in oils.

I'm planning on doing a series on painting outdoors that I hope you will find useful.

    Thanks again!
